The #1 Life Hack that Improved my Work/Life Balance

We all strive for work life balance, right? But that looks different for everyone. And when you own a business, you’re going to be excited about it. Obsessed with it, even. And that can feel great! Maybe even a little addicting. But it can also lead to the dreaded “B-word”: burnout. 🥵

Even when I’m not physically working, it’s hard to turn off my brain and forget about my To Do list and the plethora of ideas that come to me at any given moment (“that would make a great reel/newsletter/course!”). As much as I don’t miss driving to a job everyday, when your office is 10 steps from your couch, that’s not physical distance to create emotional separation from work at the end of the day.

And even when we do turn off the computer and relax on the couch, what do we do even when we’re relaxing? We scroll through our phone. And what happens every time we pick up that phone? We see a little angry red number on all the apps with notifications.

Don’t those little red numbers drive you CRAZY?

I just CANNOT see a badge notification without wondering what it says. I say “I’ll just check it real quick to clear it out,” and then it ends up being something that will “just take me two seconds” or worse, something that will set my mind cycling and kill any chance I have of recharging my batteries. And if I DON’T check it I spend all night wondering what I’m going to walk into the next morning.

So please, do yourself a favor and just get rid of those angry red numbers.

Trust me, this is the best thing you can do for yourself, ESPECIALLY if you work at home.

In your iPhone, go to Settings, then Notifications. Go into the apps (the ones whose notifications distract you when you’re trying to have a life) individually and toggle the Allow Notifications to OFF.

If you think it’s impossible, you just HAVE to get those notifications, try setting a reminder at the end of your workday to at least turn them off during work hours.

Do it! Right now! You will thank me!
